The other guests at the housewarming party had all left, one by one, but the hostess had told me to hang back so that she could show me something in private. I didn’t know her well at all; I’d come along with a friend who knew her much better, but she seemed like a nice woman. So I went looking for her after everyone was gone, and found her waiting for me like this in her bedroom!
